Pam Ayres - The Works

This is one of my latest acquisitions. I bought it for my OH, he doesn't get much time to read, so I thought this would be just up his street. He will now and again read out snippets to me, which then whets my appetite to read it myself. I've been sneaking a look when he's not glancing through it!

I have fond memories of listening to Pam Ayres when I was a child, and reading through familiar poems for myself, just feels, well, erm... quite comforting actually, it's that feeling of curling up in front of an open fire, hot toddy on the side, with a Thorntons chocolate at the ready. I would add with pipe, slippers, and slobbering dog at my feet, but I think that's pushing it somewhat! I think you will get the feeling I'm conveying.

The Works: The Classic Collection contains poems from her early years to present day. The familiar 'Oh I wish I'd looked after my teeth' is in there. What's nice to, is that she's wrote little notes to some of the poems as to why she wrote them in the first place.

This book suits all ages, and is a great fire side book. USA link
